First republic minister Sule Gaya dies
A first republic minister and Kano elder statesman Alhaji Sule Gaya Sarkin Fadan Kano has died.
Gaya died around 6:30 pm in his residence in the Kano metropolis at the age of 93. Born in 1925 in Gaya town he attended school in Gaya and Kano middle school before becoming a teacher.
He later worked at the native authority’s office as councillor.
He was elected into the northern Nigeria house of asembly and later became Parliament art secretary in 1957. He was appointed minister in 1960 and got full portfolio in 1961 as minister for works.
He was later minister for local government till 1966 when the military took over and he returned to Kano and played roles in nation building.
He is survived by wives, his children and grand children and at the time of filing the report the Kano emirate is expe ted to announce burial arrangements.
